Sustainable technology – reducing your carbon footprint
Environmental policy is a primary consideration nowadays, since evidence emerged regarding the ongoing damage to our environment due our highly-active use of energy resources. The difficulty is of course that we will always need energy, and high levels of it. However recent design developments enable us to carry on using our energy resources but in a way that helps to protect our environment, whilst simultaneously reducing costs.
The environmentally conscious design of computer and technological equipment has become increasingly prevalent in today’s society - particularly in businesses, organisations and institutions - as a way of dropping IT costs whilst reducing the world’s carbon footprint.
Sustainable design has been developed in order to "eliminate negative environmental impact completely through skilful, sensitive design". This branches into a number of areas such as architecture, engineering, urban planning, fashion design, graphic design, industrial and interior design - the idea being to drastically reduce the carbon footprint caused by these industries.
Sustainable design is a global reaction to the environmental crisis reflected in the damage to our ecosystems, the depletion of natural resources and the increasing loss of biodiversity. As well as its environmental considerations, sustainable design has also proved highly cost effective compared to unsustainable technologies.
Sustainable technology reduces cost and carbon footprint by using less energy. In other words fewer limited resources are needed, saving our depleting supply and causing less pollution to the environment. Furthermore it can often be recycled. Overall sustainable technology is the answer to our future, both economically and environmentally.
